Launch for the Smart Precinct NQ Maker Space @ DakTech 6-7-2022
Innovators and entrepreneurs in North Queensland will get a boost bringing their ideas from concept to design and fast-tracking a tangible prototype.
Smart Precinct NQ’s Maker Space @ Daktech launched on July 6, at the regular monthly networking event, First Wednesday Connect. Smart Precinct NQ General Manager Cassandra Cazzulino says our ecosystem, youth entrepreneurs and wider business community is able to tap into this new opportunity to bring their innovation to fruition.
“North Queenslanders will be able to access a range of equipment to fast-track prototyping and enable community connectivity through innovation. Guests will be able to book in to test and validate their ideas, whilst learning how to safely use equipment including laser cutters, 3D printers, soldering irons, a heat press and more! DakTech is known for supporting NQ businesses by offering affordable IT support and technology solutions, but they also have a team highly skilled in using maker space equipment and will share their knowledge to support the space and the city's innovators. Users of the space are encouraged to share their learnings and become part of the wider Makers and Inventors community.” - Ms Cazzulino
DakTech Founder and CEO Daniel Kendall, who completed Smart Precinct NQ’s inaugural Startup Onramp program, says he’s excited to support emerging founders and pay it forward.
“We love using technology to solve problems! An important part of the inventing process is being able to prototype your idea. This Maker Space enables local entrepreneurs to create low-cost prototypes, and branding resources like stickers and shirts. It also provides a supportive community for start-ups at a similar stage in their journey, with the opportunity to share ideas and create together! Through collaboration and our ongoing partnership with Smart Precinct NQ we were able to bring the new Maker Space to life.” - Mr Kendall
Guests are invited to network with other creatives, makers, entrepreneurs and businesses and explore the opportunities for their ideas in the new space.
This collaboration is possible with the support of Townsville City Council and Advance Queensland.

The FlashForge Hunter resin printer is a type of 3D printer that uses liquid photopolymer resin as the printing material. It creates highly detailed and accurate models by curing the resin layer by layer using a UV light source. This process is called Stereolithography (SLA) or Digital Light Processing (DLP) depending on the technology used in the printer.
Resin 3D printers are often used for creating highly detailed and accurate models, prototypes and molds, with fine details and smooth surfaces. They can be used in a wide range of industries, including jewelry, dental, and medical, as well as design and prototyping. They can also be used to create figurines, miniatures, and other small intricate objects.Resin 3D printers also allow for printing in multiple colors, and even transparency, which makes it a great tool for creating complex models with various materials properties. They also can be used for creating molds for casting and prototyping in small scale production.
Overall, resin 3D printers are a powerful tool for creating highly detailed and accurate models, prototypes and molds with fine details and smooth surfaces. They are a popular choice for many industries, including jewelry, dental, medical, design and prototyping.
